Water Board Staff Protest: I’ve No Business With Protesting Staff Over Unpaid Salaries – Dr Odey

The Acting Director General, Cross River State Water Board Commission, Dr Steve Adi Odey has disclosed that the has no mandate to pay any of the protesting staff that was sacked by the previous managing director.

Dr Odey, who revealed that the Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade was aware of their disengagement from work, further stated that they have already paid 500 staff that have been regularised and has no business with the disengaged staff.

It will be recall that some staff of the water board embarked on a solidarity protest in the Governor’s office on Monday to demand for the payment of their unpaid salaries.

In a telephone interview with Voplink media, Dr Odey reiterated that their protest was just a way of seeking his good heart to their issue.

“All those people that were disengaged from work before I took over because we came to regularise the contract staff are the ones protesting that they have not been paid and I can tell you that the Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade is award of it. Besides, this is not within my jurisdiction because they were disengaged by the formed Managing Director. So when I took over I met 500 contract staff and we verify them and regularise them. And this people that were disengaged came up and said I should pay them when I wasn’t the one that disengaged them.

“The 500 staff that have been regularised have already been paid and junior staff have resumed while senior staff are undergoing documentation and thats the mandate that I have at the moment.

“Those people that have been disengaged I don’t think I have any money to pay them because I don’t know about them. So they are doing all these to attract the attention of the Gov Ayade, who in his usual way always have compassion for people; so they want to capitalise on that.
