In a bid to empower youths in the State through social engagement program, Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade has disbursed N750 million for 5000 youths across the six local government in the state.
Disclosing this was Honourable Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development Cross River State Comr Asu Okang who was representing the governor during a brief meeting, leading to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Public Workfare Component (PWF) of YESSO domiciled in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the First City Monument Bank (FCMB).
The program which is set to commence on August 12, will also afford the beneficiary the chance to receive N5,000 payment from the governor at the UJ ESUENE Sport’s Stadium as they mark the International Youth Day.
The program is also align with the World Bank – Youth Employment and Social Support Operations (YESSO),aimed at supporting the youths in certain areas of life.
Hon.Okang noted that the move behind this great initiative from Gov Ayade was meant to alleviate and empower the the youths financial for future endeavours.
“It is obligatory of the beneficiaries to be involved in some menial assignments such as would require them to spare atleast two hours of their time for about two to three days in a week and are not expected to be used by any host beyond the stipulated time as though they were conventional workers.
“We expect that these people who are poor and vulnerable would be given a sense of belonging by giving them some form of support with little or no obligation required of them” he added.
