The Senator representing Cross River State Northern Senatorial District in the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Dr Rose Okoji Oko on Monday received her first five key followers and other members of her team from Yala at her residence in Abuja.
The first five key followers, were those who started with her in 2003 when she first ran for Senate. They are Barr Alphonsus Ogar Eba (DG Cross River State Due Process and Price Intelligence Bureau), Engr Steve Agbaka (member of Yala Security Council and Director Works CRS), Chief Igbagri Anthony, Barr Godwin Offiono (SA to the Governor on Taxation), and Prince George Ogonyi (member of Yala Security Council and General Manager IC World Centre). However, Chief Igbagri was absent.
Others present during the visit also include Engr Cosmas Ekawu, Comrade Emaluji Michael Sunday, Ebriku John Friday and Ogar Wodah.
The Distinguished Senator who was pleased with the visit welcomed all present and commended the gesture, which according to her was a rebirth of key followers.
According to her, in politics you need people. And when some lives, they so many others lined up to takeover as a replacement. She therefore advised against nagging attitude that some young politicians display with their political leaders.
She said, “I hold no grudge or bitterness against any one as far as politics is concern, but I forget those who live and concentrate with on those around. But my door is open to all as a political leader.
She stated further that, to avoid denying yourself what you would have gained, you must be patient and continue to be a loyal follower and supporters of political leaders. She added that There is the need for us to meet from time to time to foster unity and cordial relationship.
She also acknowledged the doggedness and dedication her five key followers have displayed over the years with her, saying “All of you are my children and I proud of the achievements so far.”
While lamenting the state insecurity in Yala, she said the security situation is very alarming, adding that it is a little bit beyond us, except for the setting up of a vigilante. “The governor is away and I believe he is doing his best to improve the security situation. If the security committee comes up with something, whatever way we can help, we will to ensure the lives and property of our people back home are guaranteed.”
The Senator also expressed shock over the death of Mr Abiji Declan Onah, who she said is one of her key supporter in Ugaga Ward of Yala Local Government Area.
Earlier, in his opening remarks, Engr Steve Agbaka while briefing the Senator on the import of the visit, on behalf team congratulated her for her victory at the poll.
Also speaking at the meeting, the DG, Barr Alphonsus Ogar Eba, commended the Senator over her leadership. He also briefed her on the death of the late Abiji Declan Onah and the Yala youth killed during the recent foiled kidnap attempt in Yala.
He assured her of the unalloyed and unflinching support of the team and indeed the entire Yala community as she get set to represent the Northern Senatorial District for the second time.
