Sen Gershom Bassey to Chair 43rd Annual Conference of Nigerian Optometrist.

Distinguished Senator Gershom Bassey of  Southern Cross River Senatorial District will chair the 51st anniversary of National Optometrist Association and 43rd Annual General Meeting and Conference at Calabar International Convention Centre from 17th to 20th July, 2019.

The NOA Conference and EXPO is Nigeria’s biggest National conference in Optometry and is held annually. This year conference is bigger and massive as NOA marks its 51st anniversary and the 43rd AGM and conference.

This was made known during the Pre-Conference advocacy visit by Local Organising Committee to the Paramount Ruler of Calabar Municipality and Ndidem of the Quas, His Royal Majesty (Dr) Patrick Inok Oquagbor.

Speaking the LOC Chairperson,  Dr Bernadine Ekpenyong said the theme “Achieving Universal Access to Eye Health: The Way Forward” is inline with the  political, technological and eye health challenges of the past few years which has had unexpected consequences in Nigeria and Africa at large: thus causing people to ask bigger, deeper, more challenging questions such as when will universal eye care be achieve in Nigeria. She noted what to expect from 43rd National conference/Expo of the Nigerian Optometric Association as includes a four-day stage program and several sessions of scientific presentations.

Responding, Ndidem (Dr) Patrick Inok Oquagbor tasked the eyecare doctors to ensure the conference cut across all sphere of the society including those who don’t afford eye care services. He assured the association of his commitment to ensuring the conference is hosted successfully with no hitches while reminding them that Calabar means come and live and be at rest.

Earlier Speaking, the immediate past Registrar Optometrist and Dispensing Opticians Board of Nigeria (ODORBN) Dr Sam Ntem said Cross River State is blesses to host the largest gathering of eye technocrats and professionals across the country. He noted that the association will ensure quakery is eliminated and eye services straighten across the state.

The conference promises to be a great event, bringing education, business, networking, homecoming and much more opportunities under one umbrella.
