—I BELIEVE IN THE NIGERIAN YOUTHS’ INGENUITY, NOT-TOO-YOUNG-TO-RUN BILL IS USELESS IF YOUNG PEOPLE FAIL TO RUN!!!!
Last week, a socio-political youth organization in Cross River state charged with the responsibility of promoting good governance and sustaining democratic gains, Youth Platform Initiative (YPI) honoured the Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu with an award of distinguished service to humanity.
Speaking on behalf of the organization, the State Coordinator of Youth Platform Initiative, Comrade Mark Awa said, the organization constituted a collection of likeminded youths of leadership capacity who have come together to achieve a particular goal of promoting good governance. He lauded the Executive Governor of Cross River State, Senator (Prof) Ben Ayade for giving youths in the state the opportunity to showcase their expertise via their appointments into his cabinet and other positions of authority.
Comrade Awa who cited the DG as an example of a young person appointed by His Excellency, Senator (Prof) Ben Ayade doing exploits, said the DG has performed excellently in her responsibility in the health sector and as the pioneer Director General, Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency. He also gave reference to another young person in Ayade’s cabinet, Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Him. Asu Akang who is also doing well. He reiterated that Senator (Prof) Ben Ayade has set the pace for a younger generation by giving them an enabling environment to operate on.
Speaking further, Comrade Awa lauded the Director General, Dr. Betta Edu for her giant strides in the Primary Healthcare sector “you are doing so great and with the passion you have, this agency has touched the lives of every single Cross riverian” noting that health is one of the key legacy of any government either at the federal or state you stand out.
Reading a brief citation of Dr. Betta Edu, the State Coordinator of Youth Platform Initiative noted that the DG has great passion for humanity and she is endowed with intellect.
The humbled DG, expressed her gratitude to the Youth Platform Initiative for finding her worthy to be honoured with an award. She also appreciates their effort and cooperation in coming together as young people to chart a course and trying to move leadership forward. She reiterated that Governor Ayade was the wind beneath her passion for service, noting that if she wasn’t appointed, she wouldn’t have the privilege of affecting humanity in at a larger proportion.
According to her, tomorrow depends on us (youths taking over is our greatest challenge). She berated a situation where older people presides over the affairs of our dear country even when a greater proportion of those who championed the campaigns were youths. “it is unfair to our generation that no youth was appointed into President Buhari’s cabinet rather his cabinet is filled with older people who ought to have retired from active leadership roles and give chance to youths.
She charged Youths to wake up because no one is going to relinquish power to them except they rise up to the challenge.
She further said that, though she appreciated what Sowore of Sahara Reporters is doing by declaring for presidency, even if he’s not given the mandate, he has opened the door for other youths to make a reference to and that for a youth to take over, there must be sacrifice by all.
Dr. Edu implore youths to shun immediate gratification and keep pushing for leadership positions. She encouraged youths to start mobilizing for Senator Ben Ayade who has given youths a voice in governance, noting that the Governor would appoints more youths into government when elected for a second tenure.
In a similar development, a foundation committed to promote child’s right, welfare and to boost educational system and help reduce social vices through edutainment, Real Hope Foundation has also conferred an award of excellence on Dr. Betta Edu.
Presenting the award, the Executive Director of Real Hope Foundation, Barr. Chigozie Chelsea said, Dr. Betta Edu exceptional performance in the revitalization of primary healthcare and bringing primary healthcare under one roof. Speaking further, she said Dr. Betta Edu’s passion for service to humanity has endeared many persons to her and as a foundation whose major aim is taking children off the street and reintegrating them into the society, we find it more worthy to honour people like Dr. Betta Edu for passionate love for our dear children.
Receiving the award, Mr. Peter Enyievi said, the DG was very pleased to be honoured by Real Hope Foundation. Adding that his Boss, was unavoidably absent to receive the award in person due to official engagement, however, extend her appreciation and support to Real Hope foundation and encourage them to continue to carry out the hunt against street children through its programmes like the edutainment, kiddies reality show, etc. She noted, taking children off the street was ideal in the interest of the future of our society while she calls on all to rise up to the challenge and take children off the street.
She also charged the children to see themselves as an integral part of the society and encourage them to uphold to the teachings being received from the foundation.
