Following the June 2018 resolution by the Executives of National Council of Health in Kano mandating all States in the country to organise a State council of health, the Cross River State Government has become the first in country to make a debut three months after. The State Ministry of Health concluded the maiden Cross River State Council on Health summit with the theme Cross River State Strategic Health Plan II (CRSSHP II) – Roadmap to achieving Universal Health Coverage, in Calabar the State capital.
In his remarks the State Governor, His Excellency, Sen. (Prof.) Ben Ayade, who was represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ivara Esu, asserted that the event signaled the birth of a fresh challenge for both the Ministry of Health and State Government. The theme, Cross River State Strategic Health Plan II (CRSSHP II) – Roadmap to achieving Universal Health Coverage, is spot on as this administration aligns with the rest of the world in bringing quality and affordable healthcare to all and sundry, he added.
In her welcome address, the host of the event and the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong, noted that the State health sector has gained global recognitions for all the right reasons.
“The State Government has embarked on a web of developmental activities in the health sector spanning across the length and breath of the State, as we sought to bring to life the vision of the ministry which is to enable all members of the Cross River State society confidently access first class health service, which is a national benchmark for quality healthcare.
The State Council on Health marks the beginning of a new journey, a new challenge, a new hope for Cross River State indigenes and residents alike, and I’m excited about it, are you?!” she concluded.
The Director General of the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu, in hrr goodwill message reiterated the committed of the State Government to leave no stone unturned in healthcare service delivery across board.
The three-day event witnessed some brainstorming at different level all in a bid to make available quality and affordable healthcare across board, and status of the most improved healthcare system which the State currently enjoys, and ended with presentation of awards to outstanding staffs in the Ministry.
