The Cross River State Government has restated its commitment to provide quality healthcare delivery to the people of the state.
Cross River State Deputy Governor, Prof Ivara Ejemot Esu said this when inspecting the 80% nearly completed Mayne avenue ( Ekpo Abasi ) Health Center Building in Mayne Avenue, Calabar.
The Ekpo Abasi Health Center is built by Calabar South LGA for Primary Healthcare approved by the State Governor , Senator ( Prof) Ben Ayade who is very passionate about the healthcare delivery to Cross Riverians.
Speaking, Prof Ejemot Esu said the State Government, through its provision of world-class health facilities and programmes, including the Cross River State Health Insurance Scheme, is determined to ensure citizens do not lack modern medical interventions.
According to the Deputy Governor, health indicators of Cross River State are already on the upswing as a result of facility rehabilitation, buildings and other medical improvements. He said the facility would also ensure the entire Efut Ekondo and Ekpo Abasi community have access to basic healthcare.
Prof Ivara Esu lauded the HOLGA of Calabar South Mrs Elemi for her ingenuity in saving to produce this life saving project that will benefit the entire Calabar South, he also praised the DG Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr Betta Edu for pushing for this project as the present health center was too small and the landlord wanted his building back. Commended her passion for her job.
The Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr Inyang Asibong lauded the Deputy Governor and the HOLGA by saying she is glad that this was happening in Calabar south where she comes from. She believes it will boast health care in the area.
Earlier Speaking, Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Betta Edu said the Deputy Governor presence in person to inspect the project shows the level of commitment of this administration to the good people of Calabar South.
She noted that Ekpo Abasi Health Center is their flagship facility in Calabar and needed a larger space that will accommodate the over flooded patients who make use of the facility for efficient and quality healthcare services.
She noted that when the chiefs came from Efut Ekondo demanding a new health center she ran to the HOLGA calabar south asking for partnership to make this project a reality. She was happy that once the approached the Deputy Governor he gave express approval on behalf of the Governor Sen Ben Ayade.
According to the HOLGA of Calabar South, Mrs Christiana Elemi the project which started on the 6th of March, 2018 to help meet the health need of the community, will be commissioned by May, 2018.
The Principal of GTC, Mayne Avenue the donors of the land situating the Primary healthcare center drew the attention of the Deputy Governor to two abandoned classrooms blocks which His Excellency never hesitated to assure her of immediate renovation, as he directed the Principal to put up a letter in respect of that as students cannot continue to study in such condition.
Present at the inspection were chiefs from Efut Ekondo that showed great appreciate to the Government of Sen Ben Ayade assuring him of 100% of their vote. The mayor of Calabar HOLGA Calabar Municipality, Hon Augustine was there, calabar south management team among others.
