College of education Akamkpa to be upgraded – Lebo


The Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly RT Hon. John Gaul Lebo has assured students of the College of Education that the House is working on a bill to upgrade the College to a degree awarding institution.
Lebo gave the assurance while addressing final year students of political science department of the college who were on an excursion to the Assembly.
The Speaker who maintained that the law is ‘an instrument for social change’ charged them to see politics as a call to service rather than a career while encouraging the students to build their capacity and focus on their education.
Earlier the Head of Department of political science, College of Education Akamkpa, Mr. Ogon Sunday stated that the students were in the house to have an experience of the proceedings of the Assembly as well as an interface with the Members.
The event featured an interactive session between the students and some Members of the House of Assembly.
In a related development, the Speaker has advised law students to imbibe the right values of hard work and integrity and shun vices capable of destroying their future.
The Speaker who gave the advice when the Law Students Association of Nigeria, paid him a courtesy visit in his office emphasized the need for the students to uphold the tenets of the law profession while stressing that the youth should build their individual capacities through acquiring quality education.
In a remark, the president of the Association, Mr. Bernard Okpi who expressed appreciation to the Speaker for granting them audience stated that the law students were in the Assembly to learn from the Speaker who as alumni of the University of Calabar Law Faculty has attained great heights in the society.
Okpi described Lebo as an inspiration to the youths and commended him for his success as Leader of the Legislature in Cross River State.
