Nigeria’s leading television station, Channels Television has denounced a photo clip credited to them and currently trending online that the Appeal Court has given a ruling recognizing Emmanuel Ibeshi as the governorship candidate of PDP in Cross River State.
The station in a message to Mr. Christian Ita, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ben Ayade said that the clip was the handiwork of criminally minded people who should be reported to law enforcement agencies.
Recall that the news of an appeal court sacking governor Ayade and recognizing Ibeshi has been trending online. Although Ibeshi has come out to distance himself from the fake report, the purveyors of the fake news have continued to mislead the unsuspecting public with the report.
In a desperate attempt to justify their lies, they doctored a cover page of January 3, 2018 edition of Channels Programme, ‘Politics Today’ to claim that the news was reported by the station.
The station has however denounced the news saying that the station didn’t air Politics Today as the anchor, Seun was only on set for another programme, the Verdict at past 8pm while the doctored clip was reading 19:23.
According to the message from channels “That’s a doctored clip of Politics Today. The set is an old one and Seun didn’t come on air this evening until past 8pm while the clock on the clip reads 19:23.
Seun was on the Verdict Set this evening.
The clip has already been denounced on the programme as a product of criminally minded people who should be reported to law enforcement agencies”.
