Former President of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to withdraw the case against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.
Onnoghen, who was absent on Monday’s Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) trial over alleged six-count charge bordering on his failure to declare his assets, have seen his case adjourned to January 22.
However, the constitutional lawyer in an interview on Arise TV on Monday morning, monitored by Voplink, appealed to Buhari to wade in to avoid a constitutional breakdown.
“President Buhari is very much aware of the action against the CJN, yet he has not spoken about it.
“Only the NJC has the authority to investigate any infraction by any judicial officer,” he stated.
“We are strong and resolute that this rubbish will not happen; it will have the gravest consequences. So I appeal to the federal government to withdraw the charge, and in the event that it has a case against the CJN, to proceed to the Senate to file a charge,” he said.
