The Benedict Ayade Film Competition aims to promote capacity in video film production in Cross River State by celebrating and rewarding exceptional film makers from the state or resident in the state.
The competition is the first of its kind in Nigeria and has the potential to fast track growth in the sector in the state as well as encourage advocacy in the area of the focus theme.
The theme of the 2019 edition of the Benedict Ayade Film Competition is “Humanity” which also happens to be the theme of the renowned annual Carnival Calabar And Festivals.
The competition was named after the governor of Cross River State Sen. Prof. Benedict Ayade because of the immense support the governor has given to the film sector in the state.
The 2019 edition of the competition has two categories, the Short Film category and the Short Documentary category. Each category has a prize money of one thousand pounds for the winner.
Participants are expected to register, shoot their short film or ducumentary and submit their entries to the website between 5th October 2019, when the submission of entries open and 31st of October, 2019 when submission of entries closes.
Voting will take place online on the facebook page of the competition in November, 2019 and scores from the online voting will form fifty percent of the total winning scores while the judges scores will make up the other fifty percent.
Scores will be based on interpretation of the theme, picture quality, production and many other criteria. Short film and documentary must not be longer than 10 minutes.
