Ban On Okada Not Negotiable – Gov Obiano ;Set To Provide Tricycles, Shuttles As Alternatives

Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano says the state will still go ahead with their plans to ban commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as ‘Okada’ in Onitsha and Awka.

The ban which will be effective from July 1 in some strategic areas in the state, have received some wide condemnation from the people, considering the fact that it will render some people jobless.

Obiano, who noted during the 2018 Annual Seminar of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council in Awka, that the state’s already putting in place alternative arrangements to solve the problem, appealed to the people to be calm and believe in his administration.

“The state government has designed a hire purchase arrangement where the motorcycle operators will be provided tricycles and shuttles and they pay in installments over a period of time in consideration to the plight of Ndi Anambra who may be affected by the ban,” he said.
