The choice of Festus Adedayo, a columnist member of the Editorial Board of the Tribune newspapers as the Media Aide to the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan has come under severe criticism by loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lawan had yesterday announced Festus Adedayo as his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
But some loyalists of the party on Wednesday took to social media to fault the appointment on the ground that Adedayo until his appointment was a fierce critic of President Muhammadu Buhari.
To drive home their argument, excerpts from Adedayo’s articles and Facebook wall have been circulating on social media where he lampooned Buhari’s administration in one instance likening it to the cartoon character “fido dido”.
In one of such posts, Adedayo was quoted to have written “Life was far more live-able under the thieving Sani Abacha than it is today under his surrogate, Muhammadu Buhari. The social crises we confront today, in a so-called democracy, are far more benumbing and destructive than the ones of 1993″.
Another excerpts from his Facebook wall dated 31st March read, “Even though largely muted, the Buhari government’s meddlesomeness in the choice of the National Assembly Principal Officers is very loud. The government is conducting the interloping in a manner that is strange to democratic politics. The principles of separation of power and checks and balances are the fulcrum upon which participatory democracy hangs. The way the APC government is defecating on democratic practice by unabashedly poke-nosing into the affairs of another arm of government, the legislature, is an affront on the practice worldwide. There can be no check, nor balance if the executive is the closet elector of the leadership of the legislature. Not even the Greek who gave democracy to the whole world did what Buhari and his leg men in the APC are doing to the legislature at the moment.”
Another smear article on Buhari by Adedayo was also published in some online platforms November 18, 2018, titled “Buhari, The Dead And The Body Double”.
Inked by his appointment, the party loyalists called on the President of the Senate to immediately rescind the appointment describing it as a smear on President Buhari.
However, some others argued that the Adedayo’s appointment was a step in the right direction as Lawan has succeeded in stopping any further tirade from his new media aide against President Buhari.
