Begining from late last year into the first month of 2018, several organisations and good spirited individuals have donated Hospital equipment worth millions of Naira. Just last week hospital equipment worth over 60 million was sent from The National Primary Health Care Agency.
Again the Senator representing Cross River South Senatorial District, Senator Gershom Bassey, represented by his wife, Dr Chioma Bassey has donated medical equipment and gift to patients worth over N5million at Ekpo Abasi Primary healthcare Center, ward 12 Calabar South Local Government Area.
Dr Chioma Bassey made the donations at an impressive event held at the Primary healthcare Center premises, Ekpo Abasi, Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The senator stated at the event that the gesture would be spread round the Senatorial district in the state to reduce pressure and traffic at General Hospital and teaching hospital, while providing quality Health Care to his people.
“The idea is to have at least one equipped Health facility within every ward, 15 minutes drive apart in the Senatorial District,’ Bassey said.
Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr Inyang Asibong stated that the Senator has since last year began donation of medical equipment to health facilities across the Senatorial district
According to her: “It gladdens my heart to witness the Senator touch lives positively and to put smiles on the faces of women, and children especially at a time such as this. This is true representation.”
Director General of Cross River State Primary healthcare Development Agency, Dr Betta Edu added that with prudent management of the medical equipment by facility staff will go along way to salvage healthcare issues in Calabar South and increase the influx of people to the facility.
She lauded the Senator for his magnanimous effort to put smiles on his constituent and said the gesture will support final preparations for the flag off of Ayade Care.
Also Speaking, House Committee Chairman on Health, Dr Ekpo Bassey who was the Chairman of the occassion said the equipment will served as a catalyst to encourage the women make good use of the facility. He also expressed so much joy at the Senators drive to combat maternal mortality rate in the state which has continuously recorded tangible progress.
The medical equipment ranged from beddings, beds, syringes to other medical tools. Generator and motor bike.
The event was attended by the Traditional Rulers and title holders in Calabar South, the Head of Local Government Administration Elder Mrs Elemi amongst others.
